Welcome to my website....

My name is Chris Griffiths and I am a Member of the Institute of Civil Funerals and I have been fully trained to officiate at a civil funeral service.   I have over 30 years experience of leading services in a public setting.

What is a Civil Funeral Ceremony?

A Civil Funeral Ceremony is, above all, a ceremony that reflects the wishes of the family and is focused on celebrating the life of the deceased. It can be a traditional burial or cremation or green/woodland burial.  It is a personal dignified tribute created by a professional Celebrant in consultation with the family.

Where can a Civil Funeral be held?

A Civil Funeral can be held almost anywhere you wish, except in churches or religious buildings.  The Ceremony is appropriate for either a cremation or burial at any non-religious burial ground or woodland burial site.

Why choose an independent civil funeral celebrant?

In our ever-changing multi-cultural world the role of traditional religion has
for many people become something that is not part of their day-to-day lives.   Increasingly therefore many people feel uncomfortable with the funeral service of their loved one being held in a church or conducted by a minister of religion as this doesn't truly reflect their loved ones beliefs or personality.    In these circumstances people often feel constrained by the restrictions placed on predominantly religious services where hymns, church music and passages of scripture are traditionally used.    As an independent funeral Celebrant I am able offer a wide range of alternatives to the more traditional funeral service.   The funeral service can therefore be humanist - non-religious, or part religious.

What can I offer?

I will work with you to create a service that is individually written and designed to celebrate the life of the person who has died in a dignified and sensitive manner.   The tribute will focus on everything that has made this person special and unique.  The funeral service is an important part of the grieving process so as well as celebrating the life of your loved one the service provides a space to sensitively acknowledge your great sadness at this time.  I will therefore spend time with you in order to create a ceremony that focuses on life and not death and rather than it being a sad and sombre time you and your loved ones will find it positive and uplifting.   Working together my intention is for you to find great comfort in providing a ceremony that meets the deceased's wishes and truly reflects their life.  You will also receive a written copy of the service.

I am also able to offer a "funeral planning" service where I can work with you to plan your own civil funeral.  These details can then be stored with your will in order to ensure your wishes are truly reflected at your funeral.

How will I ensure the funeral service truly meets your needs?

Following our initial contact I will arrange to meet with you to learn about the life of your loved one and to discuss your requirements.  During this time we will work together to create an appropriate kind of funeral ceremony. (If this is impractical because of distance, then I can do this on the telephone or via e-mail).
